A good family weekend at Lewiston Lake is mostly about not over-scheduling it. Here's the Friday-to-Sunday shape that works for most families who stay with us.
Friday: arrive late, keep it simple
Most families roll in from Redding after work. Grab groceries in Redding — Lewiston has a small store, not a supermarket. Every one of our cabins has a full kitchen and a fire pit, so night one is usually pasta and s'mores.
Saturday: water in the morning, shade in the afternoon
The lake is glassy before 10am — best window for kayaking or a first fishing lesson. Afternoon heat is for the swimming beach or a short drive to a swimming hole. Our activities guide lists the easy hikes and paddling spots.
Sunday: one thing, then home
Pick a single stop on the way out — the fish hatchery, a Weaverville breakfast, or a short trail. Trying to squeeze in three things is how a good weekend turns into a bad drive.

What to pack
Layers (nights drop fast), water shoes, bug spray for dusk, a cooler, and downloaded maps — cell service is spotty. Firewood is available on site; bringing your own from out of county isn't allowed.
